Soul Retrieval, Soul Restoration

Shamanic Soul Retrieval / Soul Restoration is a technique whereby the shaman journeys to find vital soul essence that has been shed or expelled by a person in times of great shock, need, or even in times of great joy.  Our souls do this in order to protect us in times of extreme need.

Living without this vital soul essence means that we are underpowered, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.  Soul Retrieval and Soul Restoration is the process by which the shaman journeys to retrieve this essence and re-integrate it into your vital energetic body.

Traditionally, Soul Retrieval was and is done in times of extreme sickness and distress.  As this characterizes much of the Western person's daily life, Soul Retrieval and Restoration can go a long way toward restoring vitality, cognitive abilities, and proper emotional responses to every day life.

The Soul Retrieval / Soul Restoration Journey

To begin, the shamanic practitioner makes a "diagnostic" or "assessment" journey to determine whether a Soul Retrieval is indicated.  His or her allies make that determination during the diagnostic journey when figuring out what is amiss with the client and his/her energy body.  If the determination is made that portions of the client's soul essence are indeed missing and are able to be returned, the shamanic practitioner partners with his or her allies to go and find these parts and see if they can be returned.

Soul parts leave for a reason.  If the underlying reasons for the departure are not changed, the soul part may or may not agree to return to be re-integrated into the client's essential energy body.  The shaman journeys to find the soul parts, and frequently sees details related to the circumstances surrounding its departure.  After dialogging, and oftentimes negotiating terms, the shaman gathers up the willing soul pieces to bring back to the client.  Before being reintegrated into the client's energy field, soul parts often need healing work done on them.  The shaman's allies indicate what sort of healing is necessary for the soul parts before it is safe to proceed beyond this point.  The healing for the soul part can be exactly like healing a client:  several steps may need to be taken before the soul part's energy is sufficiently "clean" and ready for reintegration.

Upon returning from the journey, the shaman relates these details with the client, detailing the soul parts, and discusses the circumstances of the departure (frequently related to the shaman by the dialogs with the soul part itself), the healing that was necessary to cleanse the soul energy, and speaks with the client to make certain the client is able to "make room" for this departed essence.  If the underlying reason that the soul part left the client is not addressed and changed, it may well leave again if it finds itself unsatisfied under the new circumstances.

When the client agrees and is able to receive these lost soul parts now having a deeper understanding of the circumstances of their departure, the shaman blows or camays this held essence back into the client's body and energy field.  This is frequently done by the shaman blowing into specific parts of the client's body followed by rattling and/or "sealing" the new soul energy into the client's body into some way.  Frequently the allies direct how the camaying and sealing is to be accomplished, blowing soul energy into the vertebra prominens, the big toe, the heart chakra or the crown chakra.  Or somewhere else.

For Soul Retrieval and Soul Restoration, following the shamanic healing aftercare suggestions is extremely important and can play a strong part in the reintegration process.   Following the re-integration phase, there is a time period of re-integration that the client undergoes to re-absorb and re-mix these portions of him or herself.  This may take up to a few months to stabilize as the client reaches a new state of equilibrium, of homeostasis to incorporate these newly regained energies of self.  Sometimes the shamanic practitioner assigns or suggests homework for the client to help "make room" for these reclaimed energies.

Soul Retrieval / Soul Restoration can be a truly life-changing experience, re-balancing the energies of the day-to-day and easing responses to certain formerly intractable stresses.  It is a gentle and invigorating, renewing method of shamanic healing.

Here's what Sandra Ingerman has to say about soul retrieval, the technique she re-introduced to Western shamanic practitioners.
